Trabajo académicoAnálisis de la implantación de Pick to Light en una plataforma logística = Analysis of the implementation of Pick to Light in a logistics platform(Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, 2023) Gutiérrez Escobar, Gonzalo Cristian; Gutiérrez Escobar, Gonzalo CristianMáster Universitario en Logística y Gestión de Operaciones (2022/23). Tutor: Dr. D. Jesús Muñuzuri Sanz. The "pick to light" is a system used in warehouses and distribution centers to streamline the process of picking orders. The system uses LED light devices located on storage shelves to guide workers in selecting the right products and the right quantities. The process usually begi ns with a central computer system that sends the details of the orders to be fulfilled through the warehouse management system. These details are transmitted to the LED light devices located in the corresponding storage locations.
Analysis of a warehouse located in India, with activity in the purchase and sale of household appliances with more than 500 references and a capacity of 9,290 square meters, using the FIFO stock control method, with a staff of 24 warehouse operators, 7 supervisors and 2 warehouse managers, with 9 own vehicles for the distribution of goods, with problems of storage capacity, humidity and difficult stock control, with lack of product tracking and lack of capacity in high season, in the months from September to December. The solutions proposed to improve the operation as a whole are the installation of a mezzanine, to increase its capacity, colour coding to control the FIFO method, Pallet Flow Rack System, to improve product control, rapid collection area, for those high rotation products and application of the ABC method, based on rotation, for a more correct organization of products within the warehouse and optimization of operator time. Finally, it is concluded to apply the ABC method, by rotation and alphanumeric coding plus colours for the location of the products and improve the FIFO.
Trabajo académicoAutomatización Robótica de Procesos (RPA) en la cadena de suministro y logística(Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, 2024) Hurtado, Facundo José; Hurtado, Facundo JoséMáster Universitario en Logística y Gestión de Operaciones (2023/24). Tutor: Dr. D. Jesús Muñuzuri Sanz. This study focuses on exploring how the implementation of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in the supply chain can drive efficiency and logistics management. By analyzing supply chain processes, key areas are identified where automation could generate benefits such as reducing response times, minimizing errors, and optimizing resources. The challenges and important considerations for a successful RPA implementation are examined, including integration with existing systems, information security, and staff training. Finally, we define the phases for a proper RPA project implementation and develop a concrete example of tool implementation.
The land transportation of dangerous goods presents significant challenges due to its complexity and associated risks. Therefore, it is crucial to develop performance indicators that effectively monitor logistics activities in this sector. These indicators, structured under the SMART model, must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely to provide a detailed insight into the logistics process and help identify recurring issues affecting response times. The research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review on the importance of KPI’s in logistics, as well as the study of the ADR Agreement and sector surveys to identify challenges and best practices. Furthermore, key activities such as order creation, approval, and delivery have been defined, each with respective KPI’s to assess average times, customer and destination shares, and efficiency in document management. These efforts aim not only to enhance operational efficiency and safety but also to strengthen companies' relationships with their stakeholders and comply with international regulatory standards.
This project aims to achieve a cost reduction in both ship loading and blending operations with a stacker through the purchase of new machinery. First of all, a brief description of the company is elaborated in order to understand what it is dedicated to at the operational level, focusing the explanation on the ship loading procedure, and to a certain extent, on blending. Subsequently, a review of bibliographic sources is made in order to locate methodology of a similar context to the case treated, which can be used to apply it to the project. This leads to the results and discussions. In these sections it is explained how the expected values of acquiring a new machinery have been calculated, followed by a dialectic on the implications of these results. Finally, it concludes with a reasoning that frames the objectives that have been set and what has been done about them.
