Situación actual de la olivicultura ecológica en el municipio de Cuevas del Becerro, Málaga

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene por objetivo estudiar la situación actual de la producción olivícola en el municipio de Cuevas del Becerro, provincia de Málaga, principal actividad agraria del territorio en términos de cantidad de superficie, de explotaciones agropecuarias, transformación del producto y empleabilidad del medio rural estudiado. Fundamentalmente se hace énfasis en la producción de olivo ecológico, tanto en su manejo a nivel de finca, como en su comercialización e industrialización. Se realiza un análisis de la producción olivícola en la jurisdicción, tanto de la estructura agraria local en sus dimensiones productiva, económica y social, para determinar el peso que representa el olivar en términos relativos y absolutos, las características de manejo del frutal de la producción actual, las dificultades, oportunidades, y desafíos que presenta con miras hacia una producción de carácter ecológico. En lo que respeta a la producción de olivo ecológico, se profundiza sobre el balance económico y el balance de nutrientes de cuatro casos de estudio, que, si bien tienen algunas similitudes, también poseen sus diferencias, en especial a la gestión del agua, entre aquellos que cuentan con regadío y los que son de secano, pero también cobran relevancia el manejo de la fertilización y otras prácticas de manejo que se detallará oportunamente. Se analiza las acciones que llevan adelante entidades de la sociedad civil del Municipio de Cuevas del Becerro como la Asociación Agroecológica Extiércol para sensibilizar sobre la producción agroecológica, marcar los hitos de su trabajo como proyectos, actividades educativas y de concienciación, los actores sociales involucrados y las redes que se conformaron a partir de la idea de producir respetando el medio ambiente e ir hacia un modelo de economía circular. La injerencia de la Asociación en el Municipio en conjunto con otros actores sociales es fuerte y directa en lo que respecta a una transformación agroecológica del territorio. Como metodología de obtención de datos in situ se realizaron entrevistas y observaciones sistemáticas a informantes claves, de explotaciones agropecuarias, y almazaras.

The purpose of this research is to study the current situation of olive production in the municipality of Cuevas del Becerro, province of Malaga, the main agricultural activity in the territory in terms of surface area, agricultural holdings, product transformation and employability of the rural environment studied. Fundamentally, emphasis is placed on organic olive production, both in its management at farm level, as well as in its commercialization and industrialization. An analysis is made of olive production in the jurisdiction, both of the local agrarian structure in its productive, economic and social dimensions, to determine the weight represented by the olive grove in relative and absolute terms, the characteristics of management of the fruit tree of current production, the difficulties, opportunities, and challenges that it presents with a view to an organic production. Regarding organic olive production, the economic balance and the nutrient balance of four case studies are discussed in depth. Although they have some similarities, they also have their differences, especially in terms of water management, between those that have irrigated land and those that are dry land, but also the management of fertilization and other management practices that will be detailed in due course are relevant. The actions carried out by civil society entities in the Municipality of Cuevas del Becerro such as the Extiércol Agroecological Association are analyzed to raise awareness about agroecological production, mark the milestones of their work as projects, educational and awareness-raising activities, the social actors involved and the networks that were formed based on the idea of producing while respecting the environment and moving towards a circular economy model. The Association's influence in the Municipality together with other social actors is strong and direct with regard to an agroecological transformation of the territory. As a methodology for obtaining data on site, interviews and systematic observations were conducted with key informants from agricultural farms and oil mills.
